HeartCode BLS Online

The HeartCode® BLS (Part I) is a web-based, self-paced instructional program that uses eSimulation technology. Students are allowed to assess and treat patients in a “virtual” healthcare setting. In this learning environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning. This course may be used for initial or renewal BLS for Healthcare Providers Course completion.

To receive an AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider course completion card, students must complete three parts which include the following:

 

  • Part I: Completion of the HeartCode BLS online portion and printed certificate of completion for parts II and III
  • Part II: A hands-on skills practice session with an AHA (NPSC) BLS Instructor
  • Part III: A skills test with an AHA (NPSC ) BLS Instructor

 This course covers:

In the cognitive portion of HeartCode BLS (Part I), the student will focus on what healthcare providers need to know when performing CPR in a wide variety of settings and will focus on the following below:

  1. Initiating the Chain of Survival
  2. Performing prompt, high-quality chest compressions for adult, child, and infant victims
  3. Initiating early use of an AED
  4. Providing appropriate rescue breaths
  5. Practicing 2-rescuer team CPR
  6. Relieving choking

Intended Audience:

The HeartCode BLS Part I is for healthcare professionals seeking an alternative (non-classroom) method for completing an initial or renewal/update BLS for Healthcare Provider course. This audience includes nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, students in a healthcare program at a university/college, allied healthcare professionals (physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, etc.) and others.

Course Length:

Self-paced approximately 2-3 hours for (Part I) and 1-2 hours for (Parts II and III)

Exams:

An online exam in (Part I) must be completed with a score of 84% or better. Skills testing (Part II and III) with a AHA (NPSC) instructor must be completed and graded with a “Passing” score.
