PALS Online Heartcode

HeartCode PALS Online Part 1  is a self-directed, interactive, web-based product intended for healthcare professionals who require a PALS Provider course completion card. The program is designed for nurses and emergency medical services personnel seeking continuing education credit. The program uses eSimulation technology, the program presents (12) realistic, hospital-based, pediatric patient cases that teach healthcare providers to evaluate and manage seriously ill infants and children.

Students interact with the program to assess each patient, formulate a treatment plan based on the PALS algorithm and American Heart Association’s 2015 Guidelines. Students learn to treat patients in a virtual setting using realistic patient scenarios while testing their knowledge of the PALS algorithm, rhythm recognition and pharmacology treatment modalities.

Using eSimulation technology provides an environment rich in engaging interactivity, allowing learners to virtually “treat” pediatric patients. Intelligent debriefing provides account of learner’s actions, with suggestions for improvement. The course is available 24/7, allowing students to practice and absorb material on their own time, at their own pace.

HeartCode PALS has been designed to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently evaluate and effectively manage seriously ill infants and children.

To receive a PALS Provider course completion card, students must complete three parts which include the following:

  • Part I: The successful completion of the online portion. Next must print the certificate of completion and present it for parts II and III
  • Part II: A hands-on skills practice session with an AHA (NPSC) PALS Instructor
  • Part III: A skills test with an AHA (NPSC ) PALS Instructor

The course covers:

  • Perform the “assess-categorize-decide-act” approach to management of a seriously ill infant or child
  • Identify the purpose and components of the general assessment (pediatric assessment triangle)
