BLS Provider Course

Course Description:

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the life-saving skills.  Pre-hospital and hospital care workers are equipped to keep victims alive in cardiac arrest. This course provides training to rescuers intervening with patients pre-hospital as well as those being treated with more advanced cardiac life-saving measures.

Providers will learn to administer effective CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It’s intended for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. This course is designed for certified or non-certified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare professionals.

 

This program is approved by and meets the behavioral objectives of the AHA for ACLS instruction and is based upon the most recent guidelines published by the AHA.

NOTE: This course is a pre-requisite for the AHA ACLS & PALS Provider Classes.

The course covers:

  • Adult and pediatric CPR

  • Two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag-valve mask

  • Foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious)

  • Automated External Defibrillation (includes child AED update)

  • Special rescue situations – specific respiratory and cardiac emergencies

  • Other cardiopulmonary emergencies

  • Stroke and sudden cardiac arrest

  • Effective team dynamics and communication

Intended Audience:

Physicians, Nurses, Paramedics, EMTs, Respiratory Therapist, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Physician Assistants, Residents or Fellows, Medical or Nursing students, Aides, Medical or Nursing Assistants, Emergency First Responders, Dental Assistants and lay rescuers who work with the public in schools, fitness centers, hotels or restaurants.

1. 2015 AHA BLS provider manual

Course Length:

4 hours – this is a one day course

Course Exams:

BLS provider exam must be passed with score of 84% or better. Provider skills testing must be completed and graded with a 100% “Passing” score.
