Bloodborne Pathogens Course

The Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens (BP) Course teaches employees and first responders how to protect themselves and others from occupational exposure to blood or blood-containing materials.

This course is designed to meet OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration when combined with site-specific instruction. This course uses the Protect, Act, Clean and Tell (PACT) to assist the student in learning what to do when there is danger of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens may be used as a stand-alone course or as an add-on to the Heartsaver® First Aid or Heartsaver® CPR & AED courses. The course can be offered jointly with other AHA courses to meet the specific needs of your worksite.

 

The course covers:

  • Defining Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Discussing how BP’s spread & the dangers related to BP’s
  • How to protect yourself and others from exposure
  • The use of personal protection equipment
  • How to properly clean yourself and the area of exposure
  • How to dispose of contaminated materials &
  • How to report exposures in the workplace

Intended Audience:

Employees who work in manufacturing, processing plants, refineries, law enforcement, security, fire services and ambulance services. Personnel who work in schools, childcare facilities, park and recreation departments along with maintenance and facility managers. Individuals who work in the State, County, local correctional facilities with jails and emergency management staff. Health and fitness workers including coaches, trainers, volunteers for sports organizations and other groups.

One hour in duration

Course Exams:

No written exam is required for student to successfully complete the Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens course.
